Principles
In over a decade of consulting, I've seen a lot of good practices and bad examples. So I've developed some guiding principles. Here are some of the principles which drive my work:
- Mutual trust and respect will be at the center of my business relationships.
- Timelines and deadlines will be met.
- Problems can be avoided by clear, honest and frequent communications.
- I will not take on more work than I can handle.
- If clients don't really need my help, I will tell them.
- If I'm not the person clients need, I will tell them.
- My reputation for quality and integrity is my greatest asset, and I will guard it vigilantly.
- Consulting is about relationships, not contracts.
- I will discount or waive my fees for
smaller not-for profit and charitable organizations who work for causes I
believe in.
I try to conduct business in accordance with the principles of Getting to Yes. In short, this means I believe if any one
player in a business relationship 'wins', in the long run, everyone loses.
